Moon Island Records presents…
Moon Island Records
Based in Koh Phangan, Thailand home to South East Asia’s underground party scene.
This month MIR head honcho Rob Gritton is joined by guest Andy Newman
Moon Island Records was founded in 2013 by good friends, Rob Gritton and Rory Gallagher.
Their goal was to create a platform for artists, who are connected to the magical party paradise island of Koh Phangan located in the Gulf of Thailand, to share their music and get it out into the world via online stores and streaming sites.
Koh Phangan, already famous for its huge Full Moon Beach Parties and numerous parties in the surrounding jungles and beaches, there was a growing house and techno scene in which Rob was heavily involved and with Rory’s knowledge of the record label industry, Moon Island Records was born…
2016 saw a re-release of Moon Island after a quiet period and Rory moving from the island Rob decided to keep the label going, especially since the house and techno scene had skyrocketed. The parties have grown to world-class events/festivals with the likes of Jungle Experience attracting huge crowds for over 6000 people on a regular basis in the peak seasons. Rob Gritton is a regular face behind the decks at most of the parties on the island holding residencies at Jungle Experience, Half Moon Festival, Moon House and Back Yard and can be found behind the decks of a lot of the other clubs and parties on the island too…
The label picked up speed through 2017/18 with amazing releases from artists all over the world who have a connection to this island check them out on the Beatport link
Moon Island Records presents… Artist
Rob Gritton realised his passion for dance music back in 1996 on a pair of 1210s. However, it wasn't until moving from the UK to the 'party paradise island' of Koh Phangan, Thailand in 2005 that his DJ career really began. In 2009 he opened the legendary Beach Lounge Bar in Haadrin, home to the world-famous Full Moon Party. Playing a mixture of underground house and techno Rob was quickly noticed for his DJ skills and impeccable music selection. It wasn't long before Rob was playing the bigger parties and festivals on the island, most notably Jungle Experience, where he has held a residency since 2010 playing to crowds of up to 8,000.
Legend is often the word people use when they talk about Graham Gold-one of the most influential and groundbreaking DJ’s on London’s Kiss 100 between 1990 -2004. There at the beginning of house music in 1987, he spent 5 years in the DJ Mag Top 40, when it truly meant something and has sold over 700,000 mix albums (6 x Gold Discs- British Phonographic Institute Artist). He has played in clubs and festivals in over 150 cities across 50 countries including Pacha, Amnesia, Space, Ultra Music Festival, Glastonbury, Homelands and Summadayze alongside DJ’s such as Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Steve Lawler, John ‘00’ Fleming, Roger Sanchez, Nick Warren, BT, Deep Dish, Paul van Dyke, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten to name just a few! And of course, there was and still is, his own brand, Peach, one of the most successful club nights in the U.K.
