Jaruh The remixes Vimal Pawa
The Lisa Marie Experience had big success in the late 90s with their productions and remixes. Achieving 5 top 10 national chart positions and many more making the top 40. Keep On Jumpin’ was probably their most famous production but they featured regularly in the club charts and on dancefloors everywhere!
Location: Hyper Nightclub, Rotherham – 1990ish
Neil Hinde & Dean Marriott both loved house music, Neil was a budding DJ and Dean was a budding producer. They met in a nightclub through mutual friends. Neil was keen to make music but didn’t have the means, Dean did. Neil pestered Dean into letting him go to his studio. Eventually, Dean gave in and the story begins.
Location: Creator Hair Salon’s basement, Sheffield – 1992ish
On regular weekday evenings, after work, Neil would go to Dean’s studio where they would experiment with various electronic genres. Dean had an outlet for his music with a label called 3 Beat in Liverpool and a few early productions made their way onto the label. The label’s ears really pricked up when they made a track that contained a sample of Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Something”. 3 Beat released a mysterious white-label of the track which was simply stamped – The Lisa Marie Experience. The track went on to be a huge club anthem and The Lisa Marie Experience was born.
Bigger things were to follow, amidst the remix offers that came in they then went on to sample an old disco track by Musique. Keep On Jumpin’ was the track. Again, a mysterious white label was put out and absolute mayhem ensued. The track was huge, Pete Tong’s label, FFRR, signed it and huge success followed.
Location: BBC Top Of The Pops studios, London – 1996
Keep On Jumpin’ peaked at No.7 in the UK national charts. The Lisa Marie Experience appeared on the BBC’s long-standing chart show in April. They later performed at a Radio 1 roadshow in Bournemouth to 30,000 people. The Lisa Marie Experience became a household name. Keep On Jumping became an international hit and international DJ gigs followed for Neil & Dean.
Location: Sydney Street Studios, Sheffield – 1997-2000
Remix success followed, remixing the likes of Sash, Eternal, Robin S, Inner City and many more. A No.1 chart spot just eluded them, 3 times they charted at No.2 with their remixes. A Lisa Marie Experience remix was guaranteed success and during this period, they were named as remixes of the year by Mixmag, fighting off the likes of Full Intention and The Rhythm Masters.
The Lisa Marie Experience went on to record just over 50 productions, 6 of them becoming top 10 hits in the UK national charts, another 5 making the top 20, 4 more making the top 40 and many others becoming huge club hits. The Lisa Marie Experience was, and still is, synonymous with the 90’s house music scene!
Not bad for 2 guys from Rotherham!
