Born and raised in NYC, Justin Medina, AKA EPIPHANYofNY’s musical journey started on Casio keyboard for pure fun when he was just a child. Having a natural ear, he excelled in music at school.
Growing up, Justin played many instruments, including the trumpet, drums and keyboards. He quickly became involved in the musical arts, with influences from a musically inclined family including (especially) his father. Justin‘s love for house music grew exponentially throughout the 80’s and 90’s. You would spot him during house parties, watching and listening to other DJ’s play, keenly studying their sounds and play methods.
Intrigued at an early age in the late 90’s, a friend introduced him to trance. The hypnotic sounds drew EPIPHANY in instantly. In late 2001 he began his journey into DJing using his father’s CD players that only had a single pitch adjuster. EPIPHANYofNY learned how to beat match and mix on belt drive turntables later on in his teen years. Meeting new friends, he really had a chance to dial in his passion for DJing and electronic music using their equipment.
Quickly learning on vinyl, Justin started buying records at his local shop as well as saving up to buy his own equipment. Once he realized how much fun and how passionate he has become with spinning and making mixes, EPIPHANYofNY decided that he wanted to make this a career. And a career out of it he did make.
Now, with over 15 years of experience, apprenticing under DJ TEK of TFST, many clubs and lounge gigs, plus a 3-year residency at the Moomia Lounge (Manhattan, NY) and a residency at the internet radio station, boost.fm.
EPIPHANYofNY has been able to showcase his unique sound and style throughout the years and his passion for electronic music has flourished through hard work and perseverance. Now living in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York, EPIPHANYofNY’S main focus is to bring his sounds to the masses. The DJ name EPIPHANYofNY came from an actual epiphany he had one night while thinking of how to take his career to the next level. That is to change nothing and remain true to himself.
With many styles and skills developed over time, his main focus is on pushing the sounds of House, Tech House, Techno, Melodic House, Progressive House and very recently, Organic house. The best from EPIPHANYofNY is yet to come.
